about

Rising Sun is a traditional Mongolian folk song, rearranged by Brian Plautz after Aberdeen returned from a US State Department sponsored tour in Mongolia. This song was taught to Aberdeen just before going on stage for a performance, collaborating with Ayalguu, a traditional Mongolian children’s ensemble, and Beatbox Ray, a beatboxer who incorporates Mongolian styles like throat singing, with modern production techniques. Brian’s arrangement repeats this Rising Sun folk melody, recoloring it with each repetition as the song follows a cinematic build led by tenor saxophone soloist Jared Yee and drummer Zach Mullings, landing into an explosive, climactic restatement of the melody and ending with an outro, featuring a phone-recorded rehearsal of the children’s ensemble playing this arrangement on their horse head fiddles and dulcimer. This recording also features a traditional Mongolian horse gallop rhythm as well as throat singing and effects by Beatbox Ray.
