about

Unofficially regarded by the Kyrgyz people as an alternative to their national anthem, Kyrgyz Jeri is a traditional folk song, rearranged by Brian Plautz after Aberdeen returned from a US State Department sponsored tour in Kyrgyzstan. The track opens and closes with a padding of tenor saxophone effects crafted by Jared Yee, setting this arrangement in an otherworldly atmosphere, with various plucked string ad libs by Shubh Saran and horn ad libs by alto saxophonist Brian Plautz and bass clarinetist Max Zooi. Featured on this track is Adam Neely on synth and electric basses as well as James Quinlan on acoustic bass. Chloe Rowlands provides a heart-wrenching flugelhorn solo that expertly matches the otherworldly tone of the atmospheric sounds interspersed throughout the track. The final statement of the melody, laden with interweaving contrapuntal horn lines resolves into a somber outro played by pianist Christian Li.
